You might know that years of schooling are required to become a dentist, but what does their education and training entail exactly? First, the aspiring dentist needs to earn their bachelor’s degree, which is often in a major that’s heavy in math and science. Then, they must be accepted to one of 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. There, their dental training will officially begin! Over the next three years, they complete rigorous in-classroom and hands-on training in order to obtain their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS). Although they’ve completed roughly seven years of schooling at this point, their studies are far from over. In fact, in order to maintain their license, they need to complete continuing education hours every year.
There’s a popular misconception that dental care is really expensive. As a result, many patients avoid essential restorative care and even routine checkups and cleanings in an attempt to save money. The reality is that preventive dentistry actually keeps the cost low by helping prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other serious oral health concerns. Plus, the longer you wait to get the restorative treatment (or treatments) you need, the more time the root of the problem has to progress.
With all of that said, our team at Glisten Dental of Tulsa does offer several financial solutions to help make the cost of preventive, restorative, and emergency dentistry more affordable. So, if you’re at all worried about the price – whether it’s about your next checkup or smile-rebuilding dentures – don’t hesitate to give us a call!
If your dental crown comes loose, you’re struggling with a toothache, there is a pimple-like bump on your gums, or something similar, then you should contact our Tulsa emergency dentist ASAP. Over the phone, we can schedule a time for you to come in for an exam and provide you with helpful recommendations on what to do until you arrive.
Important note: If you have fractured your jaw, you’re having trouble breathing, or you’re experiencing another potentially life-threatening symptom, then go to the ER right away.
The cost of dental checkups and cleanings isn’t the same from patient to patient. For example, if you have dental insurance, then you may not have to pay anything out of pocket! If you’re interested in learning the price, then the best thing to do is give us a call so we can provide you with an estimate.
